For a quarter of a century, the Australian National Internships Program (ANIP) has offered internships in the Commonwealth Parliament to students from across Australia. The internship combines the unique experiences of a work placement in the Commonwealth Parliament of Australia, with a focused research project supported by a course on applied policy research.

Students will undertake the Commonwealth Parliamentary Internship during the Second Semester of 2018 for the equivalent of 12 units of course credit. They will need to apply within their home university for cross-institutional approval to undertake the program.

Open to undergraduates and postgraduates of any academic discipline - during 2017 parliamentary interns completed research projects on cybersecurity, economic policy, regional Australia, international relations, energy policy, indigenous policy, global development, public health, domestic violence, counter-terrorism, science policy, criminology, environmental science, migrant integration, education, Australian history and law reform.

Through the Commonwealth Parliamentary Internship, students will deliver a research report of 8-10,000 words as part of either ANIP3005 (Undergraduate) or ANIP6005 (Graduate). To be eligible, students must have completed two years of undergraduate university study.

Interns will be based in the Commonwealth Parliament for a fortnight during parliamentary sitting weeks in August to October, where they will develop a policy research project and have the opportunity to engage with a range of activities that shape national policy-making.

During the remainder of the semester they will continue to develop their project through working with constituency offices based in their home state. This research will be supported by ANIP's online learning platform and face-to-face meetings with academic supervisors.
