Helping young workers understand their rights to work

Private Sector Labour Relations (PSLR) at the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety is undertaking a Wageline social media campaign to educate and raise awareness of employment entitlements for young people in Western Australia.

Young workers are one of the most vulnerable groups to wage theft in WA due to a lack of awareness about their employment rights.

The Young Workers in WA campaign aims to educate young people aged 24 and under on:

the laws that restrict when and where children can work in WA,

where to find information on pay and leave entitlements, and

what to do if they have been underpaid

The Young Workers in WA page on the PSLR website has been revamped to assist young people in finding the correct information on their employment rights, where to lodge an underpayment complaint and where they can get support on other workplace matters including bullying and harassment.

The Young Workers in WA campaign will run from 7 – 27 April during the school holidays and coincides with Youth Week WA.

Keep an eye out for the campaign on the WagelineWA social media platformsand make sure to share it with the young people you know.
